Hi,
TVcatchup has been working great for me on my ipad2. However last two nights it just won't work. The channel loads, plays a very pixelated picture for between one and ten seconds then just freezes. I am now streaming on the iPhone site which seems to be ok apart from the odd freezing here and there for a few seconds but it starts again.
Any ideas whats up with the iPad site?
Thanks

If you are having problems logging into the iPad website, please try the following steps as the iPad's settings are terrible and always losing their configuration.
1. Close the TVCatchup in your ipad Safari Browser with the home button.
2. Go to Settings->Safari
3. Ensure that Javascript and Plug-Ins are Enabled. (Turn them OFF and ON again) For the OS4 there is no plugin option so just complete the Javascript bit.
4. Ensure that "Accept Cookies" is set to "From Visited" or "Always"
5. Click "Clear History"
6. Click "Clear Cookies"
7. Click "Clear Cache"
8. Turn your ipad completely OFF for a few moments, then turn it back on again.
-------
9. Open Safari Browser
10. As to Step 1, TVCatchup should be closed. So now type "http://ipad.tvcatchup.com"
11. Click the "Login" button
12. Enter Username
13. Enter Password
14. Click on the Orange "Login" button.
15. The page should now refresh and say "Logged In As USERNAME" in grey at the top?
16. Select a channel and watch TV

How much free space do you have on ipad?
Are you using your WiFi or Mobile Internet?
Are you using http://iphone.tvcatchup.com or http://ipad.tvcatchup.com ?
In the instructions above point 5,6,7 and specificly 8 are important and wont hurt to try it all the way trough again..

I have about 10gb free space on iPad. I'm using wifi, don't have 3G. My wifi is not the issue, it's a very strong signal. I have done point 5-8 which def worked as I've lost all my passwords and had to re type all the websites I hadn't saved in bookmarks! It doesn't make sense to me as the iPhone stream works fine but the iPad one doesn't! So to confirm it is http://ipad.tvcatchup.com/ that won't work. It used to but now doesn't. I only tried http://iphone.tvcatchup.com/ last night out of interest and it worked fine. What next?

Saying that, just tried iPad and it seems to be working again. I suspect the issue is only happening in the evening. I noticed actually that it was working yesterday in the day but last two evenings it won't. It just freezes when the channel starts. Is it a sever issue your end with too much traffic accessing it in the evening?

I dont have an iPad unfortunately to confirm your suspicions, but I am aware we have much excess capacity generally, im sure this is true for iPad.
The thing that always comes to mind with evenings, is congestion at local exchanges. As Virgin Media does have traffic management, but id of not imagined it would effect iPad.

So what happens next?
It seems odd. I can't see it being a traffic problem from virgin media otherwise the iPhone site wouldn't work either. It seems to me to be a problem with the iPad beta site transmission?

On my iPad it is perfectly okay and the transmission is working fine without problems, what OS update are you running?
There was an update last week did you install it, if so I suggest backing up everything and then doing a reset and install it again as sometimes it takes two or three times to get all of the features in the updates.

Version 4.3.5 like I say it's fine in the day but not at around 10pm when I try to watch it in bed! But the iPhone version works in the evening.

Well that wouldn't be the site because that would suggest heavy loading on the servers and we are no where near that - I am more inclined to think that it is an update issue which I may add has been proved to be the fault many times in the past.

Just to be 100% sure I have asked the engineer to take a look to see if there are any issues.

Thanks for your help. However, it still doesn't make sense why would the iPhone version work and the iPad version not work? Are they sent in a different way? Let me know what the engineer says. If they dont know, I give up!

They are slightly different streams, anyway he is having a look but I cannot repeat the issue nor can he, but we will keep on monitoring the situation.

To update you, the ipad feed still does not work. Still does the same thing, I choose a channel, it loads then one second later freezes. The iPhone feed works but the picture is not great. Is this going to be fixed? I've tried another site and that works beautifully.

The trouble is that you are the only person reporting this and as far as we can see the streams are working okay, if they weren't then are forums would be flooded with complaints about the streams, but they aren't.
The streams work fine for myself on my ipad and I can see no issues, so there is not much we can fix at our end if they are not broken.
I will speak to the engineer again in the morning but try and understand our position in that one person reports this out of thousands who are using it okay.
Have you tried backing the OS up and installing it again?

My mum is also having the same issue with hers. She doesn't use forums so hasn't reported it.

Also, surely not a problem with my OS. Film on app streams fine so does BBC iplayer, ITV player etc. I wouldn't have a clue how to back up and restore the OS! I've only had my iPad 4 weeks.

Well, I have been through ever test that I can think of and I have no issues on my ipad, but I will keep on looking.

I am having exactly the same problems with my iPad 2 as described by previous person
Just because he's the only one reporting it doesn't mean there's no one else having probs ! Didnt know this forum existed till I got so frustrated with the iPhone working and not the iPad that I typed the question "why can I not use Catch up TV on my iPad ?" Which led me here
You really need to do something about it as the app just doesn't do what it is supposed to:(

Did you try the fix in post 2? Because that is what worked for them when I phoned them and talked them through it.

I likewise have had the same problem for the last few days.
Clearing the cache/cookies/history resolved the issue.

I'm having a similar problem, go to click on a channel to watch, the address is put up and initially starts loading with the blue bar about 1/10th across the URL bar and it just hangs there on a White/blank page, done everything in post 2 and nothing...

Seems to be using a different URL than before? When I try to watch BBC1 It uses this;
http://84.234.23.229:1935/iphone_alt/tvc_bbc_one_lq.sdp/playlist.m3u8?userID=1545208&accessKey=5C052E2FI1545208I1R95688O-8a3115d36c4f061c7c0a5838095244a0-4e6a7c24&sdp=tvc_bbc_one_lq.sdp&device=ipad
Is this the usual URL?

i have followed the instructions on how to clean up the cache and the same thing happens. You start watching any programme and a few seconds later it freezes. The iOS is version 5 and have no problems in any other streaming apps.
Please help. Thank you for your help.

Can you install this speedtest for the ipad http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/speedtest.net-mobile-speed/id300704847?mt=8 and do this over one hour to get an average test
