Angry 3G despite "only wifi" option on iPhone 4s

Ive seen a couple of posts on this below which were dismissed in quite a patronising way, but just wanted to note that despite the "only use wifi" option being selected on the app, the app can still very much use 3G!

I use the app to fall asleep to - last night the Phone reverted to 3G, which the app used and will now cost me around £20 in data charges.

This has happened a number of times with the app - completely my fault for not remembering to turn off 3G in my network setting when I know this problem - but please know that your app can still use 3G despite the wifi option being selected. I have a 4s on iOS 5.1.1 - tv catch up was literally the only app running and I know that this has only ever happened on nights I use the app and forget to turn 3G off. And yes, the option for wifi only was definitely selected.

Please look into this or add a warning - not fair!

I will ask our developer to have a closer look at the implementation of the WiFi only, but it is their..

Can I ask you to do a few tests:

    - Test1: Please open the App. With WIFI On at home select the "WiFi Only Option" then TURN OFF YOUR WIFI and try and connect to a steam. Does it then connect via 3G? (if so theirs an issue).

    - Test2: Please open the App. With WIFI On at home select the "WiFi Only Option" then TURN OFF YOUR WIFI, then Close the APP, then Re-Open the App. and try and connect to a steam. Does it then connect via 3G? (if so theirs an issue).

    - Test3: Please open the App. With WIFI On at home select the "WiFi Only Option" then start watching a Stream. Then TURN OFF (whilst watching). Does it then connect via 3G? (if so theirs an issue).

It would be appreciated if you can run the above tests, a big ask and a pain. It may help us diagnose if its an implementation issue.

Tried all three with no problem I.e. I get the message saying "there's no wifi" - so in these instances the wifi only option works.

The problem seems to be that when I have wifi and 3G both enabled on my phone and leave tv playing over night, at some point to phone switches from wifi to 3G - potentially because the wifi drops at done point or because of something weird in iOS - it is at this point that 3G takes over and then it would seem that the app starts using this as its connection. So while the switch of source seems to be the phones fault, it seems that when it happens this way, the "wifi only" option does cancel the feed and stop the play as you would hope.

I will obviously always turn of 3G in network settings from now on before I leave a stream running but wanted you to know that this can happen.

    Cheers

Google this and you will find tons of hits about it do it definitely sounds like a real issue.

One thing that seems common is that it occurs in the middle of the night, some suggest if the phone goes to sleep it switches the wifi off and swaps to 3G, could this be happening but the app not detecting the change over?

    Just a thought.

It's very hard for the app to detect a switch from wifi to 3G whilst a stream is playing which is what I believe is causing this problem. I'll speak to the developers and see if they have any ideas
