Default 3D Olympics Opening.... missed it!!! :(

    Hi Guys,

Does anyone know of a site that is either streaming or offers a download of the Olympics Opening in 3D ??? or if its scheduled to run again on BBC HD?

As unfortunately I was out the night it was on, round a friends house who didnt have 3D TV. And when I got back, my folks (who I let them watch it on my TV) said it was amazing!!! I would of recorded it to my HardDrive but the linking cable from HDD to TV blew up two days before hand, and a similar cable would cost like 5x the price unless a wait a week...

So wondered if anyone knows anywhere that either re-running it, or uploaded as a download link? or if BBC plan to re-show that again in 3D?

I know BBC plan to release more in 3D, but does anyone know what days this is?? Trying to find this out on net is like looking for needle, haystack? :P

    Cheers, Freeview

I believe they plan to show it on BBC HD in 3D (or that's what they said last night) but you could try the iPlayer website and see if they've put it up there

No, but it would be a large file.

    Hi Guys,

    Thanks for your replies....

I tried the iPlayer, but it doesnt seem to be in 3D content...? Its only in SD and HD...

And I have found a source, but unfortunately my Internet is not cut out for it, will take me about 3x months to download it... lol. As I have seen it stored/copied at around 24Gb for the whole show in true 1080p HD 3D.... So unless anyone knows any other sources...??

Looks like I may have to wait until Monday when can ask someone with a faster net access to download it for me, or hope BBC re-show it again on the HD Channel sometime??

I must admit, the BBC and Radiotimes dont go out of there way to tell you when a show is in 3D?? So far the ones I've heard, like Tennis and that has been word of mouth. There should be a website, or TV Guide listings that say what they plan to run/show in 3D and what not...?? I know last night I knew it was going to be.... Sadly, wasnt at home to watch it and ended up jus seeing 2D...

From what I have read, BBC plan to run 3D shows on BBC HD every night from 11pm onwards for 1hr a night.... but would be handy if there was a TV Listing showing whats on, and when...??

    Hi All,

Well just to update on this....

Still not seen it in 3D yet... Boo hooo!!!! I did see the closing in 3D, and that was good. Not great!!! But good......

I did eMail/speak to the Beep about this, and they told me back then that they planned to re-show it due to popular demand in 3D again.... However nearer the time, I have now found out that they are nto going to show it in 3D, and only show it in 2D or HD.... which is what ya can get from the iPlayer..... So why they bothering???

So it pains me to think how much that cost them, when it will only been seen once. As neither the BBC nor Boyle plan to release it on BluRay.....

So it kinda begs/asks ya, when summit like that was only ever decided to be seen once.... That people will go out there way to obtain it via other sources.... Its been re-released from a BBC source down to 16Gb now (from 24GB) as the earlier release was from Sky/Japanese captures.... Alternatively, it can be downloaded via the iPlayer in 2D SD (not sure about downloading in HD) and run through a SBS 3D converter, however as that broadcast was in 2D, it wont show it in its best form....

I just think its a shame that the BBC are not bothered about re-running such a spectacular show peice, seems a pity....

How does 3D work/not work for those that don't want it? I have partial sight in one eye, real 3D isn't that great and the cinema/TV 3D I've seen is just a mess for me, but I've not seen the more modern attempts, but fear greatly that it will spoil my enjoyment.

To be honest I think 3D TV is overrated but then again I have always been happy with regular 576i TV content.
I tested a 3D TV in PC World last year was either Panasonic or Samsung you needed special glasses which I believe had polarised lenses.
Sure enough the video was in 3D but it come with excessive flicking a bit like using a CRT monitor with a 50Hz interlaced refresh rather than 75Hz or 150Hz.
After about 10 minutes I had to give up it was giving me a headache plus the fact I had to wear the silly glasses too.
Perhaps the technology has moved on since then but needless to say it didn't leave me with a lasting impression.
As for the BBC iPlayer they do stream HD content but since Flash doesn't support 3D video playback AFAIK then it's unlikely the BBC are going to release this in 3D.
