    Default Ashes General Chat Thread

With the first test starting on the 8th of July we thought we'd open a general chat thread to coincide with our very own TVCatchup fantasy ashes cricket game.

Please get involved and post your thoughts on the upcoming series.

Who do you think will win ?

Who do you want to win ?

What are your thoughts on the first test taking place in Cardiff ?

Which players do you think will shine ?

Which players do you think don't deserve a place in their respective squads ?

Who would you have replaced them with ?

If yourself or anybody has a question then feel free to ask. Lots of information to be read and it will prove helpful for those who know cricket as well as those who are taking an interest for the first time. The beeb have quite a good Cricket section on their sports pages with useful information. Or you could indeed use the official ECB website.

Neither side is as strong as they were in 2005, most especially in the bowling departments. Obviously the legendary McGrath and Warne are gone, as is Simon Jones, leaving both sides relying on younger talent. It's a great opportunity for Broad to prove himself as a bowler of the highest calibre - he's a discerning bowler and should be able to out-think the Australian batsmen.

I'd say that England have the overall edge. My prediction? 2-1 to England. Win at Cardiff, lose at Lord's, draw at Edgbaston, win at Headingley, draw at The Oval.

I see the following players as key players.

Hughes Aussies. Not used to English conditions and as an opener that is important.

Lee. can he stay fit as the rest of the Aussie bowlers look pretty timid.

Johnson. Very good bowler but once again not used to English conditions. A very good batter though and could prove decisive down the order.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cook, think he'll have a field day against a weakened Aussie attack.

    Bopara. See above.

Swann. The one and only decent spinner amongst both squads.

Flintoff...............need i say any more......... fit or not fir is the question.

Absolutely. Now he's the senior bowler in the side, the success of the bowling attack really rests all on him. With his mastery of reverse swing, he's the most likely bowler to cause England any real problems.

I think the Aussies are well short on the bowling attack mate. Siddel and Johnson have pace but both are new to the English conditions. My dog can spin the ball more than Hauritz and the part time bowlers in Clarke and North are not as good as what the Aussies have had in the past. If Lee doesn't fire then i will be surprised if the Aussies can bowl England out cheaply.

Well, your question's just been answered - with Lee now ruled out of Cardiff and Lord's, there are major problems now for Australia with arguably their most valuable player sidelined. What will their bowling attack look like now?

I feel that both sides are too weak as far as bowling's concerned, I'm expecting a lot of draws.

I think England will win 1-0 or 2-0. Just because England have a stronger batting lineup.
