Default Chelsea banned from transfer market to 2011

Chelsea have been banned from signing any new players until 2011, after Fifa accused them of illegally inducing a French youth-team player to join the club in 2007.

"A restriction of four months on his eligibility to play in official matches is imposed on the player Gaël Kakuta while the club FC Chelsea is banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for the two next entire and consecutive registration periods following the notification of the present decision," the DRC statement said. "Furthermore, the club, FC Chelsea, has to pay to RC Lens training compensation in the amount of €130,000."

Tonight, the London club issued a statement which read: "Chelsea will mount the strongest appeal possible following the decision. The sanctions are without precedent to this level and totally disproportionate to the alleged offence and the financial penalty imposed. We cannot comment further until we receive the full written rationale for this extraordinarily arbitrary decision."

    Fifa going mad again !!!
Although I am not the biggest fan of Chelsea, two words spring to mind "Ronaldo & Real Madrid", seems like Fifa are full of double standards

It seems to me that both Fifa and Uefa are trying to have a pop at English clubs as often as they can. You can't tell me that these sort of bans are justified considering what some other countries clubs get away with. Plus i'm sure if they looked into the Italian, Spanish, Greek, Turkish, Polish, German etc etc clubs they would find they are not squeaky clean and some do worse things. I'm not a big fan of Chelsea either, but i see it as an OTT action carried out by FIFA: Other English clubs should take note as FIFA and UEFA are on a witch hunt imo.

I'm sure Chelsea will put in a strong appeal, if they don't win then FIFA are setting a president they will regret in the future as we'll have all sorts of clubs having a pop over how transfers to those bigger clubs with money happen.

Absolutely ridiculous. Just a continuation of the bias against English clubs, although a very serious action to take. Hope Chelsea win their appeal.

Papers saying Manchester United could be next.

Taken from the BBC gossip column.

Manchester United could be the next big club to be punished with a transfer ban if they are found guilty of an illegal approach to Le Harve youngster Paul Pogba. (Various)

Rules are rules.Every pro football team should know this. This has been happening for years and if they were to punish every team who broke this rule, then there are alot of top teams in the .

"Rules are rules" - If they're never enforced, they might as well not be... That's the problem with football nowadays.. It's very similar to weak fouls in the penalty box; it should be a penalty everytime that it would be a freekick outside the box, but its not...
