Whirring fans, whizzing hard drives, boot-up/shut-down process, viruses and many other aspects scare these people away.

The ipad is not for geeks, it's not a netbook, laptop, it's not a productivity machine, it is an electronic media machine for the masses... and that is all most of the public want.

Look down on this huge market if you wish but, from a business perspective, ignore the ipad at your peril.
Well said MOTTB. For years this is the position I have been in almost acting like a middle man between the geeks/techies/programmers and the real man in the street. Remember the old saying KISS "keep it simple stupid", this should be the no1 rule on all IT courses of any flavour...always think about the end users and also use words they can relate to. Think of all the millions tax payers money going on OAP's and the like to go and learn the finer details of a PC when all they want is is do the odd bit of surfing, possibly skype a relative and email and now just catch up on iplayer a radio or tv program. With the simpler devices the courses will no longer be needed. The more we help to create this "environment of simplicity" the better it is for business and of course for Joe Bloggs the consumer. KISS

Most of the content on the net that you've just illustrated won't work on this device anyway.... how's that for keeping the user experience simple?!

Absolutely stupid your comments and ignore what we are saying if you had time to read it. I am saying this is "part" of the solution, I actually celebrate the iPad release even though it is obviously not perfect along with the continuing releases from other manufacturers. It all keeps the creative processes flowing. Seems some folks just don't know how to be positive. Without ALL these manufactures being innovative where would be be, back in the dark ages, no internet, no telephone, no printing press...L. Rawlins did you really help the process of moving things forward, no but looking at your previous posts I would of expected a more intelligent statement from you. I don't want to be rude but I almost found it childish. The iPad whatever you feel along with other releases just continues to move things along quite nicely thank you.

This is why I normally stay off making comments, my apologies to all but it's been said before some of us that are not part of your set-up do get treated a bit wrong sometimes and our comments treated with almost contempt. I may be very enthusiastic about TVCatchup service but not always with the way forums disputes are handled. And TVC_Colwal if you follow the tread through you will see why I felt a bit cheesed off. Constructive discussions which we were trying to have were in fact laughed at. I pray this changes.

Everyone involved in decent web design should be praying that Apple put the last remaining nails in the coffin of cheesy flash.

...to then sell you miscellaneous app's that perform functions the web would otherwise have provided gratis? I wasn't referring purely to Flash either by the way, neither do I regard it to be some kind of definitive resource. Quite the opposite in truth. But to disregard it and other third party solutions relevance for accessing content widely available on the net today is the kind of arrogance I've come to expect from Apple and their product line.

That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. You don't have to agree.

TVNewbie, please search the App Store for 'Sense of Humour', you could use an app for that!... wow!

People have opinions but as long as the opinions are expressed in a civil manner then everything is cool.
Don't get me wrong, I lose it sometimes I'm only human but I have a big git called 'Dan the Man' to have a word in my shell-like, which of course, I return from time to time

I have followed this thread and avoided posting in it because I don't like Apple and there it ends, simple, I don't need to explain it nor do I need someone to persuade me otherwise, and other people like yourself have a different opinion, but my friend I am not going to call you an idiot just because you like it or think it is a good idea, because after reading your posts I think you are a cool guy

What is the need for this? The latest and greatest technology? Wanting to be like supermodels or famous movie stars...
or you just want to waste some cash.
Whatever happened to a computer? Why do we need this? admittedly it may be useful for a minority of people. But i guarantee there will be a cheaper better alternative so either stick to books or computers until it comes out unless it already has.
