    Default PS3 struck by bug

PlayStation 3 owners worldwide are reporting that they’re effectively locked out of their online accounts and are unable to use any of the PlayStation 3’s online features. An undisclosed number of games have fallen prey to the problem too, presenting perplexed PlayStation punters with a mystifying error code whenever they try to log on. Link.

Its not like its a Holiday or anything where unexpected numbers sign on, I wonder what the problem is?

.... Heavy Rain? Too Heavy for its servers it seems..

Sony say it's the PS3's system clock that's been causing bother, so half the PS3 install base can't log in to PSN, and games keep booting people back to the XMB, and to add insult to injury, autodeleting their precious Trophies as well.
So in theory, you should still be able to play games that don't have Trophies(like Oblivion) without bother.
    BBC iPlayer still works though.

I've befallen the 'ApocalyPS3' bug myself. I'm hoping it gets resolved ASAP, but since PSN is free I'm not too put out by the down-time to be honest... although I was looking forward to a couple of 'Modern Warfare 2' matches tonight after the day I've had.

Sony didn't do anything to 'fix' the bug.
It was caused by a bug in how they calculated leap years. Seems someone at Sony though 2010 was a leap year. Slim consoles were not affected so it was probably something in the hardware.

I guess 48 hours later everything started working again because the consoles all reset their dates back to 2nd of march
