Default Ipad is the worst piece of junk so far

Sorry, I just had to say that and put it in the title as already people with obviously too much money to spare are helping to promote something which has very little going for it.

Please admins set up a new category so that all iPad related posts can be filled away including mine.

As you know, I have one, although I didn't personally part with any money for it.

Hard to tell if it is rubbish given almost impossible to get any apps for the thing at the moment. Things will doubtless change when the app store is available in the UK.

Personally I would go along with the junk label, it's neither ornamental nor practical, just an oversized and seriously overpriced iPod using a closed proprietary mashup of hardware and software. Plenty of people will buy them though, if Apple tinned their own flatulence people would start forming queues.

Why, when it comes to Apple, do so many people get it all out of proportion? They get so hot under the collar, and yet, Apple enthusiasts are never heard being aggressively vocal about Microsoft. They don't care what MS, HP, etc., are doing or selling.

The excellent iPad has been available in the UK for only three days and yet all you hear are journalists, bloggers and commentators berating it. Why? If they genuinely don't like it, they shouldn't buy it. If, on the other hand, they have bought it and are disappointed, they should return it. Very simple. What is wrong with these people? We live in a free world - buy what the hell you want and leave what you don't, but do not insult others who choose a different path.

Strikes me that the bulk of the anti-Apple aggression and grumbling comes from the people who can't afford them. All the people I know (without exception) who have, however reluctantly, switched to Apple, have never looked back. However, they could all afford to do so, just maybe, there lies the issue.

Apple make excellent products. They not only work, they look and feel great too. If their products don't do what people want, they shouldn't buy them, it's as easy as that. No one is twisting their arm so why do they get soooooo angry?

I've deleted the duplicate post, but the poster makes some fair points and as I'm not exactly renowned for my love of all things Apple, I'd like to put my opinions across.

For my sins, I own three Apple products, an iPod, an iPhone and I have had an iPad for 4/5 weeks now (brought in from the USA for evaluation).

As I have said elsewhere, I have found the iPod to be a great little media player, the iPhone much the same plus the addition of a mediocre (overpriced) phone - albeit that I am inseperable from it - and the iPod (as it comes straight out of the box) an overpriced and oversized iPod albeit with a very pretty display.

Without the applications (which you pay for and which don't come from Apple anyway) the iPad doesn't exactly represent the best value for money, and for £500 I would strongly recommend that people buy themselves a good netbook and save the change.

The reasons why so many people are resentful of Apple products seems to be related to the high price of ownership, the proprietary nature of both hardware and software (Apple tightly control the availability of both), the fact they seldom actually pioneer anything, but copy (albeit they arguably refine) existing products (they weren't the first media players, phone manufacturers or makers of tablet devices), their attitude of customer satisfaction leaves a lot to be desired (remember exploding iPods and broken displays? Duff batteries on iPhones, etc?), the iTunes rip off store and their refusal to conform to common standards (e.g. absence of Flash, adoption of proprietory codecs, etc)

From my own perspective, perhaps the most frustrating issue about Apple products stems, not so much from any of the above or the devices themselves, but from the annoying assumption of superiority of so many of those who have bought them. Some of these people share an attitude in common with BMW drivers, they think they are better in some obscure way than everyone else because they have spent so much money in acquiring them. In the words of the late Oscar Wilde, "they are men who know the price of everything and the value of nothing"

Be that what it may, I agree that Apple products are indeed fairly well made, fairly innovative in design, extremely intuitive to use and do what it says they do on the front of the box. If you can afford them, I'd agree you could do a whole lot worse for yourself.

(someone moved the post above whilst |I was replying, but I'll leave it in anyway)

Dan, how did you get one without paying?

I have an iPhone 3G and frankly can't wait to get the next iPhone this year, hopefully with a cheap/free upgrade. The reason is it just works, it's easy to use and the touchscreen is not a thumpscreen or breathscreen. It is very easy to buy apps, you know they won't have bad surprises in them like viruses and porn. You can do so much with it. Watch TV,Text, Phone, Email, Video, Facebook, Every website, Take Video and photos, GPS, Create spreadsheets/word docs, remote desktop to my my mac and PC, use it as a mouse, and keyboard for PC and Mac, chat to people on MSN, Google Talk and Skype, access all my files that I need, watch all the videos and listen to music stored on my PC. And that's on a tiny little screen that fits in my pocket. I just wish I could do almost all of that on a bigger screen.
But then there's things like not being able to sync wirelessly, and a few other things that highly irratating. But I know that it will work or I can get help with it With other phones the OS doesn't always match the phone, like there's no button that should be there, or the screens size is different
