TVCatchup F1 Game 2011

Okay the idea of the game is predict the result of a three driver combination over three days so this will include points for:

P1 result
P2 result
P3 Mini competition
Qualifying result
Race day result
Movement in Race
Fastest Lap

The wonderful partnership of »happycabbage« and »tartist« will be taking care of the scoring and the race day results and the tables will be displayed at TVC Games Site

A very big thank you goes out to these guys

The rules

All results will be taken after each session

[=================================================]
OVERVIEW
A few days before each meeting a list of drivers will be posted. You will select three drivers according to rules set out below. The order of drivers in the list will be based on the results of the previous meeting.

In addition, after the results for practice sessions P1 and P2 are known, you will make a further selection of two drivers for entry into the special Saturday P3 mini competition.

The game results will be posted on the TVC Games site.
Players' totals will be aggregated over the season.

Newcomers are welcome! If the season is already under way, just make an entry and we'll give you bonus points as described later to let you catch up with the others.

[=================================================]
SCORING

Practice 1 and 2
Points will be awarded to the top eight finishers for each part.
Example: Massa comes first in P1 = 10 points.... Massa comes third in P2 = 6 points: total points scored over P1 & P2 = 16 points
See below:
DRIVERS: PRACTICE FINISH Winner: 10 points
Second: 8 points
Third: 6 points
Fourth: 5 points
Fifth: 4 points
Sixth: 3 points
Seventh: 2 points
Eighth: 1 point

Practice 3 Mini competition
Ok so we are going to run a mini competition on the Saturday morning. Points won will be added in to the main competition totals. Entries will be made after the results of P1 and P2 are known

Each player will pick two drivers.
The maximum number of points that each driver can earn for you in Practice 3 will be the sum of his positions in P1 and P2*.
Example: Hamilton is 4th in P1 and 8th in P2, so you will receive 12 points if he wins (i.e. 100% of the maximum number of points).
The number of points that you will receive for other placings will be:

1st: 100%
2nd: 80%
3rd: 60%
4th: 40%
5th: 20%
Others: 0%

These will be rounded up or down to nearest integer. 0.5 will be rounded up.
Example:
You choose Trulli and Hamilton.
Trulli: P1-19th, P2-17th. Fourth in P3 so you receive 36 x 40% = 15 points.
Hamilton: P1-4th, P2-8th. Third in P3 so you receive 12 x 60% = 7 points.
Your total: 15 + 7 = 22 points.

*If for any reason a driver drops out of P3 then 10 points will be allocated as compensation for that practice

[=================================================]

Qualifying
Points will be allocated for only the top eight drivers.
Example: Massa comes second = 8 points
see below:
DRIVERS: QUALIFYING FINISH Winner: 10 points
Second: 8 points
Third: 6 points
Fourth: 5 points
Fifth: 4 points
Sixth: 3 points
Seventh: 2 points
Eighth: 1 point

[=================================================]

Race Day
Points for race day will be allocated for only the top eight drivers.
Example: Massa comes third = 6 points
see below:
DRIVERS: RACE FINISH Winner: 10 points
Second: 8 points
Third: 6 points
Fourth: 5 points
Fifth: 4 points
Sixth: 3 points
Seventh: 2 points
Eighth: 1 point

[=================================================]

Drivers: Movement in the Race
Up to 5 points will be added to the total or taken away per driver for positions gained or lost during the race**.
As each player selects three drivers a player may receive or lose up to 15 points.

Move up from grid qualifying position *: .......... +1 point per position gained (maximum 5)
Move down from grid qualifying position*: ..... -1 point per position lost (maximum -5)

Example:
Player Fred choses Massa, Alonso and Trulli.
Massa qualifies in 1st, comes 2nd in race: 1 point lost
Alonso qualifies in 15th, comes 3rd: 5 pts (max)
Trulli qualifies in 11th, comes 5th: 5 pts (max)

Fred’s bonus: -1 + 5 + 5 = 9 points

*must be a classified finisher
** this is based on the grid position at the end of qualifying. Any grid place penalties applied later are ignored.

[=================================================]

Fastest Lap
You will receive 5 bonus points if one of your selected drivers drove the fastest lap.

[=================================================]

RULES
Driver Selection - Main Comp
You will pick three drivers but two MUST NOT be from the same team, and predictions will be taken from previous race result NOT championship standings:

  • one driver from the top six [i.e from positions 1~6]
  • one driver from the next six [i.e. from positions 6~12]
  • and one from the bottom 12 [i.e. from positions 13~24]

Driver Selection - P3 Mini Comp

The two drivers may be from the same team.

[=================================================]
Member's Wild Card
A wild card for all members can be played once a year and this will equate to a 50% increase on the total scoring points for one selected race.

New members will have an additional 10% introduction wild card that can be played on any given race in the year. See below:

[=================================================]

New members

From time to time new members might wish to join the game; therefore, we have developed a system that we believe is fair:

New members to the game will be allowed a total points allocation of 10% below the lowest player active member** in the members league table, which can be found and downloaded in the zipped file below.

Newcomer's Wildcard
New members will also be allowed a wild card* to play at any stage in the season and this will equate to an extra 10% of their total for the wild card week. It will then be added to make one total for the wild card week.

* The wild card will only come into play, after the AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX Sun 27 Mar 2011 Round 2
** an active member is defined by a member who has played all the games

Missing Entries
You will be awarded points when you miss making an entry as follows:

[-]("Main" means the whole competition except for the P3 mini-competition).[/-]
[-]Main competition: awarded 5% below the lowest scorer for the Main competition.
P3 Mini-Competition: awarded 5% below the lowest scorer for P3.
Entire meeting: The 5% awards for each of Main and P3 will be added together.
[/-]
Replaced by:
You will be awarded 5% below the lowest scorer in the competition.
(Reason: this year two drivers from the main competition are used as default entries for the P3 competition. So a player is either absent for the whole meeting or enters for the whole meeting)

You may not enter P3 if you haven't entered for the Main competition.

See the next post for examples of scoring for missing entries.

Cut off time for entries
Normally entries must be made before midnight before P1, and before midnight before P3 for the mini competition. This may be varied by games organisers from time to time and if so will be announced in the selection thread. Exceptions may be requested. Any entries received after P1 (or P3 in the case of the mini competition) has started, will be declared void.

Tartist and myself have come up with a nice little twist on the game this year.

As Kers is being reintroduced into the racing this year we decided to include a form of it in our game.

KERS 2011
  • For each meeting you must nominate one driver / choose one session# that KERS will apply to / predict the driver's finishing position in that session.
  • The driver nominated will be independent of your three picks and of which group he is in.
  • You may not nominate a driver whom you have nominated in any previous meeting.

# Sessions will include:
  • Practice 1/2/3
  • Qualification
  • Race Day
So in total there will be five choices of when to pick your Kers Driver

The points awarded will be based on how close the driver is to your prediction.

Finished in predicted position: 50 points
Finished within one position of prediction: 30 points
Finished within two positions of prediction: 10 points

No points for a driver who did not finish.

Advantages:
Everyone has a reasonable chance every week of picking up good points, regardless of driver.
No-one can keep choosing obvious favourites
There is an element of skill in deciding which drivers are most suited to which circuit, but if you don't have the skill you still stand a good chance of picking up points.

Thanks,
Colin
