    Default Apple and Thunderbolt

Apple have just released thunderbolt with the new MacBook Pro http://www.apple.com/uk/macbookpro/f...ml#thunderbolt

"With 10 Gbps of throughput in both directions, Thunderbolt I/O technology lets you move data to and from peripherals up to 20 times faster than with USB 2.0 and more than 12 times faster than with FireWire 800. Two 10-Gbps channels on the same connector mean you can daisy-chain multiple high-speed devices and a display, without using a hub — and without reducing performance."

I'm not particularly techy but that sounds ridiculously quick.

Yeah, it's roughly twice the speed of USB3.

But - the same could have been said about Firewire 800 over USB2, Apple initially supporting the former before giving in and concentrating on the latter. It'll be interesting to see whether this takes off or not. Apple & Intel will need to persuade other manufacturers that it's a good idea first!

I had to laugh when I went to the launch of the 4S... I asked the apple store guys if they had anything which worked on Thunderbolt... All he could offer me was another MacBook Pro to connect to the one I already have. They can't recommend anything else as people haven't begun making apple certified devices for them.. lol @ that.

Isn't that like the seamless gearbox being invented before the car? LOL

By the way apple portray it here: http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt/

Seems although they have 2 x 10Gbit pipelines... Sounds promising...
