Default Win 7 Service Pack1 has slowed down my PC

Service Pack 1 was released for general download this week.

I've just let Service Pack 1 be installed on my laptop and wish I hadn't. It's turned my laptop from being pretty fast into something more like a bowl of treacle. It takes an age to start up and some programs are taking a long time to open.

I googled "Win 7 SP1 has slowed down my PC" and found a raft of other people complaining and the usual suggested course of tests / solutions from Microsoft, none of which work.

So be warned; I suggest taking a disk image of your PC before installing it.

Oh hell no, Windows 7 sped my PC up something stupid

@Tartist: have you removed all the bloatware? My folks had a similar issue on a sony Vaio "all in one" pc and it was slow until I removed the bloatware. Also, isn't it alot easier just to do a rollback than do an entire disk image? (Start ->> All Programs --> System Tools --> System Restore) - In safe mode.

I forgot to mention that the SP1 installation decided to hang at the last with "Setting up Personalized Settings for Windows Desktop Update". Took a reboot to get SP1 installation to complete.

Today, we're suddenly working reasonably quickly again, but instead a couple of functionality issues have raised their heads. "Outlook has stopped working" with the solution offered: "problem with the send to bluetooth add-in, do you want to disable it?". It wasn't a problem before, but apparently now it is, but since I have never used this feature from Outlook I disabled it, and that's gone away. The other is that the audio service now fails to start.

Not looking for solutions or suggestions, thanks just ranting!

Apart from that I think that Win 7 is a great OS; I've got XP on another PC that can't be upgraded to Win 7, but I'd never willingly go back to that.

Bluetooth is a bugger on laptops.. I had to disable the bluetooth on my folks machine too.

Weirdly enough this only happens with the OEM versions (brand specific, not the generic OEM's with nothing but the MS badge). Exactly the same thing happened on my folk's PC when I installed it.

I also ended up applying a load of fixes myself through vbs scripts.

Take a look at your eventlogs and you'll notice a myriad of errors which have MS whitepapers on them.

Off the top of my head, the event sources were: SideBySide, WMI and a few others which I can't recollect.

Bluetooth has worked fine on my laptop for three years; only SP1 decided to cock it up.
Anyhow, just rebooted again and got the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH! lol...
Restarted again and after a black screen that tended to linger a rather longer time than usual everything came up fine and the audio service started for the first time in four reboots!

Anyway, I think I've done this saga to death. I'll probably bung a disk image in and take it back to its youth, and re-install SP1 from a leaner cleaner system.
I tend not to rely on MS' System Restore because over the years it's let me down on a number of occasions, going through all the process and finally announcing "the system could not be restored", safe mode or not.

I can't even get SP1 :/ Windows update wont start, error says 0x80072efe (apparently internet connection problem), the troubleshoot doesn't work, their has been a recent problem with the updater, so microsoft released a fix for it (earlier this month), that doesn't work, the microsoft KB that relates to that error leads to a 'fix it' which is no longer stored on the server. I don't have a clue have a clue what to do

Check your time-zone, date and time.

Failing that download the redist here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...a9b77cdfdda###
