    Default Norwegian massacre.... too soon?

What does everyone think of the situation?

The first BBC report listed the likely reasons for the attack as:
1 Al Quaeda (essentially just doing their thang)
    2 Anger at Danish cartoons
    3 Norway troops in Afghanistan

One, two, three just like that. They even listed them as bullet points with a nondescript muslim gent out of focus in the background. Then 24hrs later, wham bam he's go no tan, turns out it's Anders.
At the time I saw the aforementioned story on the news I thought nothing of it, but I suppose possibly because the suspect turned out to be practically the polar opposite of the BBC's assumption, I half expected a retraction on the news... nothing!.
I've trawled about online to find the first Beeb report but can't get it. That's pretty dirty in my book, I don't like this nasty assuming business on the news...

Still, aside from all that I for one am interested in hearing what he has to say, am I alone?

Breaking news usually is speculative as the facts gather and the noise subsides so I'm not really sure what your issue is. I'm sure they were banding around similar ideas in the open forum live on the BBC News channel as the story actually unfolded but I doubt you'd have seen them branded as 'facts' either. 'Breaking news' is subject to development - be it televised or online.

I agree that the news media do jump too early to conclusions in their haste to get stories out. I found the video that the killer had put out earlier and it clearly shows that his motivation is to do with anger at the left wing government for allowing, as he sees it, jihadists to slowly Islamify Europe. He believes that the current West is controlled by Marxists that had free reign after the second world war until the sixties. As you say, it is entirely the opposite of what was being guessed at at the time.

Well this Andres sounds like a right wing extremists and there's no glossing it over. Time for right wingers to accept reality. There are some psychos among their ranks who are willing to kill innocent people to get their point across. They are not the proverbial sacred cow and don't distract by bringing Muslims and the left into it. This isn't about either of them. It's a bitter pill to swallow but a pill nonetheless.

The press works with speculation too much - I gave them benefit of the doubt that it did look like what happened in the Triple bombing rips through Mumbai.
In the end they were wrong...

Take Amy Winehouse for example she is due for a post-partum today - all this "she died from drugs" is speculation and is not a fact, (well not a fact yet).

I'm not sure whether I should post this, as it goes against many peoples' sensitivities. But it is "from the horse's mouth" and gives an insight into where this sicko is coming from. I don't agree with banning stuff, for example if you read Hitler's "Mein Kampf" which was banned in many countries, it gives you an insight into how intelligent people can lead whole populations astray. Anyway, feel free to delete it if necessary.

I completely understand that initial facts are thin on the ground in my opinion that's all the more reason to tread carefully, the bulletin I caught seemed so matter-of-fact... (if memory serves it was just after the car bomb and prior to the shooting). It seems like blaming Muslim extremism is the default reaction...

I agree with Marcy. Even if there are very few facts to go on you should not really speculate in news articles. Especially when you are looking for someone to blame. It is bad journalism and the BBC are incredibly good at bad journalism.

When I heard the news my first reaction was has Norway got its own terrorist group like ETA and IRA. The facts I wanted to know were what was so important about the building being blown up and what group of people were camping. Normally though when someone starts a killing spree it has very little importance to them who they are killing more than they are all in one place.

I assume that he thinks people will copy his example in the future and he must feel very justified at his actions as he made no attempt to kill himself. There was a lot of writing in the youtube but one thing I saw was him claiming that societies like Korea and Japan should be role modules for Europe. I do not think he has any idea of the type of slavery and brain washing that goes on in these countries. Europeans live in countries where freedom to think and be individual is important. Korea and Japan work on everybody being the same, thinking the same and doing the same. People who do not fit in are outcast at primary school level.
In Korea if you do not succeed to go from a good primary school to secondary school to university your life is effectively over by the age of 21. Hence the ridiculously high suicide rate amongst students.

Lets hope this is a one man crusade and lets hope the St Georges flag is not once again used as a simple of hatred because I like my flag.
