What does that joke actually mean?

Personally I think the only reason women do not cheat as much as men (if that is actually the case) is because we still live in an unequal society. Whenever I ask my friends if they would rather their husband go to a prostitute or a lover they always choose prostitute.

What does that joke actually mean?

The joke is more about the "brotherhood" of men.
If a wife phones asking where husband was last night to all his friends, then every one will say he slept their - in attempt to protect him. The joke says the opposite of women.

I just thought the idea of phoning up partners friends and everyone backing him up with lies was funny.
