The live events starts in 5...

Apple not provided a live stream, why? ... So people blog and post about it to create a "buzz" before they release an edited video, where everyone has brilliant white teeth.

Others have set up a "Live Blog" so you can read about it - http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/a...note-liveblog/

Seems apple is ignoring android has this feature. Unbelievable hype
For decades technologists have teased us with this dream that we can talk to our technology,” said Apple’s Phil Schiller, “But it’s never come true! It’s such a let-down! What we really want to do is just talk to our device!”

So... is there anything to bother talking about?

Siri, looks good, but only on the 4S which noone will buy, and it's not actually natural language, they just have an extensive dictionary.

All that was announced (after half an hour of boasting), was
a new print and mail cards app (not news at all),
    iCloud (previously announced),
    iOS5 (previously announced),
Assistant/Siri (pretty cool, but still in beta and no release date, 4S only, but requires Data, so in this country you'll be waiting half an hour for it to get back to you)
iPhone 4S (faster processor, much better camera, slightly modified antennae that should solve some of the previous "issues")

Most of the presentation was spent on Siri (voice software), 2nd longest section was the first section on stats, then the 4S, and then on iPods and iOS5 and iCloud.

Its amazing the charisma Steve Jobs has, and yes his reality distortion field did exist and has now gone.

So no new design iPhone, only one cool software feature (yes fandroids will say Android already has voice recognition, but when you watch him talking to the phone you see how good it is), and a 6 month delay.

If this had been announced in June/July it wouldn't have been so bad, but they've delayed an extra 6 months and really not done much, especially considered they develop the next iphones quite a while in advance, already they will be on the iPhone 6)

In unrelated news, Apple stock dives, (it was at more than $400 in the last month)

    Marcy, Let's talk iPhone 5.
    - I will start, it does not exist. You did the the assistant feature rumor right though.

I want to know who will be que'ing up all night for a Iphone 4S which is lower technical spec that android devices of same price and looks just like all the older iphone.. (hands up!)

ALSO did you know up until the day of the announcement, you could download Siri as an iOS app on any iphone ? ... Thanks apple for making people upgrade to a new devices when their was "an app for that". (sure their will be some improvements)

Wow, I was just having a giggle but you're properly bitter! Although if that Siri thing you mention proves true colour me unsurprised. With a bit of luck the ICS announcement next week will knock some rose tinted shades off, and if that doesn't what they're aiming to charge for the 4S certainly should do!!

I wouldn't say bitter... I get no joy out of Apple's Demise with Steve Jobbs not at the helm.

The Siri App is true, they recently disabled it.

    Happy Birthday btw

The Siri app was just that, an app, this is way more tightly integrated into the phone. Maybe if you watched it you'd see the difference. Also it was wolframalpha integration meaning it can tell you just about any known fact, especially math/science based.

And the jailbreakers are already on to getting Siri to work on lower versions.

But no I won't be queuing up, the only thing that makes me what to buy is that it's best to keep right up to date, because if I stick with my iPhone 4 it won't pay enough when I sell it to buy an iPhone 5, whereas if I buy the 4S, less money will be lost.

Steve Jobs not being there + small room + 'S' upgrade + lateness, made the announcement not so impacting, but it is better than the iPhone 4, (probably not worth £500 for existing iPhone 4 users though)

And although Apple fans might not be happy, the Android fans getting defensive and squirmy makes up for it

    :-)

I half watched it, via the live blog, no live stream. Is it worth me watching video after the fact to see the difference?

It's worth watching 70 mins onwards.... or 60 mins onwards if you wan't to see the camera, some fairly impressive tech there.

    Siri demo is 70 onwards
