Well to be fair I don't rate either company that highly but TalkTalk more than Tiscali so I can only see it as a good thing lol.

I signed my mother up to Tiscali last year and she has had no problems thankfully and has benefitted greatly by free weekend calls to most of europe landlines, she got a free upgrade to 8mb and is and has been very happy with the service. Lets hope this continues with TalkTalk.

I left Tiscali about 4 years ago because they sent me the 'clause 5.9' letter which said I used their unlimited internet service too much. They gave me till the end of the month (11 days) and their service would stop. At the time I was downloading about 10Gb a month so it wasn't excessive. Went to Demon and haven't looked back since.

Friend of mine joined TalkTalk on their free weekend/off peak deal a couple of years ago and he reckons that he's had a rock solid service ever since.

PS. Demon were bought out by Cable & Wireless last Oct so I am waiting for the AOL effect...

    The AOL effect?

We're on AOL and until recently we've had major problems with slowness in the evenings. Suddenly everything's ok with no more congestion problems

Ok smasher, I heard from a friend that reckoned he was being traffic shaped on an evening after 4pm. I think virgin are doing something similar as well, sounds like AOL might have sorted themselves out.

The 'AOL effect' happened to me...But I got used to it after using AOL for years. After a certain time at night, your internet speed would drop.

Advice to anyone: If you get asked, don't use AOL's software. It is very slow...

I left AOL because I ended up getting 300 kilobits down on a line that could achieve 12 megabit. Thanks Sky lol
