Default This movie could not be played error – Tried everything…

After six months of perfect operation I am suddenly getting a - This movie could not be played – error on all channels.

My iPhone OS is 3.1.3 which is far as I can upgrade it.

I have tried clearing the caches, switching Java etc on and off, doing a hard (two button) reset.

I have not installed any new apps.

    I am using http://iphone.tvcatchup.com

Have you changed anything during the last few days – and have you tested it with an old iPhone?

I too am running 3.1.3 on a 3gs and use the web access for iPhone as the app is not supported. I have not been able to get any channels over wifi for over a week. I simply get the "movie cannot be played error" on all channels. I am on talktalk which is supported. Router has been rebooted, cache cleared etc etc but still the same issue. Nothing changed at this end of the process so please fix it!

UPDATE tried using a new account and got exactly the same result - no channels will play :/

We haven't changed anything out our end and I will speak to the engineer again but he assures me this is not from us.

Same here, was affected last year and I'd pretty much given up on TVC with my original iPhone, then for no apperent reason it was up again, now it's gone again.

I assumed that it was a script or codec issue affecting IOS 3.x devices that TVC had rectified, so not good to hear that it's never apparently been identified.

You can assume all you want, but we have never had any issues with iOS 3x devices until last week... We are looking.

Okay we still haven't identified the issue but our engineers have advised that if people update to iOS 4 or above then there is a 99% chance that the issue will be sorted.

Table of versions: iOS 3.x – portable iOS devices
iOS 4.x: fourth major OS release
iOS 4 was made available to the public for the iPhone and iPod touch on June 21, 2010. This is the first major iOS release to drop support for some devices. It is also the first major iOS release that iPod touch users do not have to pay for.

The iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2nd Gen. have limited features, while the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3rd Gen. & iPod touch 4th Gen. have all features enabled. The iPhone and iPod touch 1st Gen. cannot run iOS 4.0 and above.

iPad compatibility was added with the release of iOS 4.2.1 on November 22, 2010.

Table of versions: iOS 4.x – portable iOS devices
iOS 5.x: fifth major OS release
iOS 5 was previewed to the public on June 6, 2011. This is also the second major iOS update to drop support for older devices, in this case; the iPhone 3G, and iPod touch 2nd Generation (MB & MC models). It was released for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA), iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, and iPad 2 on October 12, 2011 at 10am Pacific Time (5pm GMT).

Well, given that the problem was rectified with nothing on my end fixing it and no info on what caused it, all I could do was assume it was a backend compatibility issue with my static and ageing iOS device. Newer iOS versions haven't been affected now or in the past (for me anyway). Other streaming services are not affected.

Previous posts from last year here, here, never discovered a solution, I only found it to be working again on my old iPhone by chance myself, until the other day that is.

A shame, I was quite getting used to watching Judge Judy in the loo on the faithful old 2G.
