compatibility with raspberry pi

I've read the post and it says he can't get ITV player working, not TVC. I also noted that you've posted your fix on there anyway. I need to make sure the fix is compatible with other builds before I update the main, but once i've checked I'll push an update

I had opened up a support ticket concerning this forgetting I was a member, probably better to post the details here for everyone to see and hopefully someone will benefit, for reference TVC was basically un-watchable apart from in mobile quality mode.

Firt was my initial query

I initially tried TVC 2 on my RPi but it didn't want to play ball. I consider that generally streaming video wasn't working great so have made a few changes following this guide

iplayer, and demand 5 now work well, streaming in good.considerably high quality video, however TVcatchup will just about stream (low quality video when set to mobile quality with approx ten channels removed from view.

I am confident the problem is not a network issue (as iplayer etc stream well, as does 720 HD content over ethernet) so was wondering if there is anything i've missed that needs changed bearing in mind a number of people seem to be very happy with how it's running on their Pi...

Try using OpenELEC, it works a lot better with the Pi and seems to like our plugins a lot better. I believe it's got something to do with the rtmpLib used in Raspbmc.

Shame you didn't read the thread first otherwise you'd see that the link is already towards the top of the thread!

Also I still stand by what I said about OpenELEC being better in your support reply, as I've seen the 2.0 version of MY plugin working really well without any user modifications.

Sorry, it appears to have stepped on your toes and upset you somewhat, That was not my intention whatsoever, I was simply trying to help other who found themselves in the same situation as me (clearly it's not an isolated problem)

Concerning your comment about not having read through all posts of the thread; I wonder why you never simply directed me toward the particular post when responding to the support ticket if you knew it was there... (I'm presuming it was you that did due to the fact that you seem upset I didn't want to take the advice)

Ok, sorry about that. The link I was referring to was this one. Not quite the same forum, but the guy there has posted a step by step guide and a copy of the modified lib that fixes the issue.

As for OpenELEC, at the moment it's a pain as you have to compile it from source but on the plus side you get to see how and why things work in Linux (which is the whole point of the Raspberry Pi Project).

As for your support ticket, at the time you posted I was on my tablet and didn't have access to the links in question, also I still stand by my opinion that OpenELEC works better with the plugin and as I said, I believe its got something to do with the rtmpLib used. A point worth noting is that a lot of the EPG version has been tweaked for low memory, low power devices like the iPad so if you fancy trying to compile OpenELEC then its well worth a try

Thanks, Open elecs' need to be compiled is my biggest issue, as I really can't be bothered to download, nevermind install linux for the sole purpose of compiling, but rest assured, when img files are available i'll be all over it.

Sorry to go on about it, but the link you've posted, does indeed tell us what the fix is. I had actually seen it, but as someone coming from windows who had never used ssh before the information was useless as I hadn't a clue how to edit the file. Hence posting the link I did. (which puts it in simple laymans terms (and works for those of us using windows), those who dont need it can sift through and extract what they need - everyone's got the info they need)

I get what you mean about the RPi being for learning about coding and such, but if I was to apply the same logic to the Personal Computer, I doubt we'd have TVC....

RC1 was pretty much broken... now RC2 is here, much smoother

tvcatchup 2.0 installs fine, reduced epg days to 5. updated the listings from the settings menu took a LONG time... cpu chugging away at 95+% but patience prevails!

takes about 10 secs to load each page of listings but once scrolled through once pgup/down is actually pretty snappy

with highest stream quality and selecting itv hd i get a few seconds of playback then the pi freezes.... some debug:

bbc one+two worked fine, just froze on itv hd. i'm pretty sure this is not tvcatchup plugin's fault... Sam (raspbmc dev) is using xbmc 12 alpha builds which are obviously unstable, but i though some logging might be helpful.

The reason it takes longer to load the first time through is because it loads each page into the memory as it's needed, but then keeps it there once its loaded. I could change it to load it all at once, but that would take even loooooooonger lol. As for the crash on ITV1 HD, I think it MIGHT be because the R-Pi might not have the power to decode the stream (before you say it, I know it has hardware decoding, but I'm not sure if it works on the Pi yet) so that's probably why it fell over, but on the whole, glad to hear its working for you.
