I bet you a million quid that it won't let you put flash on. (or will limit you to a list of sites they will allow you to use flash on, like they are in the Metro UI in Windows 8).

They'd rather sites had an app on xbox (even though they don't seem to realise they need a much more open app store), and the people who provide content for the existing apps won't want flash because then it means people can really easily watch pirated TV on their TV.

And I wouldn't put it past them to disable to HTML 5 video either.

I really hope there's flash my I doubt it sadly.

Not interesting at all as MS have taken six years to catchup with other gaming consoles . It's most likely a "modified version of Internet Explorer 9", clearly with just basic web browsing abilities, and none of the fancy stuff that IE9 introduced that requires the graphics hardware acceleration capabilities of Vista and above.

    As for Bing voice search

*a typical day in front of the xbox 360, you open the all brand new internet explorer featuring bing voice search*

    User : TVCatchup forums
Bing : I understood you were looking for: TV grownup foursomes
    User : No ! TVCatchup forums !
Bing : I understood you were looking for : Buy condoms for TV grownup foursomes
    User : TVCATCHUP FORUMS
Bing : I'm sorry I didn't understand, you could repeat please?
    User : *iss off
Bing : I'm sorry I didn't understand, you could repeat please?

Perhaps, but the PS3 browser hasn't been significantly supported or updated in the six years they've had it. What with "Smart TV's" taking centre stage now and with them having developed beyond limited app-saddled gimmickery, I would have expected a lot more development on that front from Sony.

Most notably (and cost effectively) an Android app that directly interfaces with your PS3 over local Wi-fi. Turning your phones into media remotes for the consoles Blu-Ray/DVD drive, sharing media content from screen to screen, and also acting as a gyro-enabled controller for ease of "point and click" web browsing. (Think Wiimote with an onscreen keyboard.)

That's what I would have done anyway. The hardware's already there, and it's been paid for by someone else in most cases (HTC, Samsung, LG) - but unfortunately the software environment and the seeming interest by Sony to enrich its own platforms usability, is not.

Sounds like good news, will have to see what it supports... Probably Silverlight, lol.

my understanding from the last windows 8 event I attended the web browser for xbox will be the metro 10 version on the windows 8 os. As technically all the metro apps are cross supported on the xbox 360 and windows phone.

yes, but sony has no motivation to improve this functionality on what is primarily a games console - they want to sell ever more powerful ICTVs also.

I couldn't disagree more. If the PS3 were regarded as just "a games console" by its creators they certainly wouldn't have chosen to lose money on it year on year until fairly recently through the inclusion of the then bleeding-edge high definition BluRay drive and (sadly departed) dual boot Linux environment.

The PS3's achilles heel has always been its marketing. To-date the unit is still a pretty competent and versatile off-the-shelf media centre for the mainstream, but it has never been coherently sold, supported or packaged as one.

If they're to continue running with it for another fiscal year, some added incentive for purchase beyond novelty peripherals couldn't hurt - not least where minimal investment or manufacture on their part is required. I don't know anyone in the current climate with the 2 large to splurge on an internet enabled Bravia as you suggest, so Sony would be wise to use the substantial footing it's established over the last six years in our living rooms to introduce such functionality "by proxy" and to undermine the competition at a price point none of them can match.

Their Freeview add-on might have tanked but IPTV and the whole online/social viewing experience isn't going to - as Apple will no doubt soon demonstrate.
