Lately I've hit on the idea of listening to favourite TV shows in car and on my mobile phone, I've done this by sending the audio of a live TV station out using a Shoutcast server, which is normally used for internet radio.
It can be quite entertaining and useful to be able to catch up with your favourite TV shows/channels as you're driving or out and about on your mobile. Example shows I've listened to that work quite well in this way are Eggheads, The Chase, Coronation Street & The Simpsons.
So this is a suggestion that TVCatchup provide an official option to stream only the audio of the main TV stations such as BBC ONE, BBC TWO, ITV1, C4 & C5 and maybe even some of the main digital offshoots for use when driving/listening on mobile when out and about. The TVCatchup player could have an option for audio only added to it, that when requested stops streaming the video part, or audio streams of the main stations could be created and sent as internet radio streams and submitted to online directories such as TuneIn and the ITunes directory. But maybe that wouldn't be legally possible but I assume that the audio streams themselves would be, because if TVCatchup is legally able to stream a relay of the TV feed that is made publically available free to air, then surely it can do a stream with the video omitted?
A family member used to use a scanner to listen to TV audio on his way home from work when we still had analogue TV, he used to listen to the delights of such teatime entertainment spectacles as The Weakest Link & Eggheads, but now without a proper solution due to the difficulty in receiving Freeview successfully on the move we are both wondering if there shouldn't be an official solution.
Would any of you want to see this option?
